out of mist, 2020

Scaffolding, greenhouse glass panels, misting system, metal fittings, bass shakers, screen, cables, vibration, sound, single-channel video

The installation out of mist resides in an empty greenhouse in the botanical garden of Frankfurt. It centred on a monumental triangular column constructed from steel scaffolding, with heavy and muddy glass panels from the plant nursery nearby hanging precariously only through steel wire ropes. The structure is filled with churning mist and activated through six-channel vibration. A vertical video is shown on a screen leaning against the facade of the greenhouse, based on a letter from the British traveller and plant collector Reginald Farrer written in 1915 from Lanzhou, China.
