Installation with two-channel projection and vibration

The video installation yellow consists of two-channel vertical video projections and sound produced through two vibrating metal structures.  The projectors hang from a steel wire structure, and they project onto a wall divided into three parts by the metal structures, with the middle section of the wall kept empty.

Historically, yellow is the imperial colour of China, synonymous with power and prestige. However, in contemporary China, it’s semantically related to erotic or pornographical. On first glance, the videos seem to be random screen noise in yellow. Upon further inspection, shifting figures start to appear among the dots. The two videos was split from an algorithmically altered version of the live broadcast footage of a martial art match in Guangzhou, China back in 2003. Between Liu Hailong and Robert Kaenorrasing, a Chinese Sanda fighter and a Thai Muay Thai fighter, the match was a classic among a series of similar fights organised by the Chinese governmental institutions.
